Course Purpose
The PTE Academic Preparation course aims to:
- provide learners with a thorough understanding of the PTE Academic test, including its format, structure, question types and scoring system
- develop effective test-taking strategies to help learners manage their time and perform confidently in the examination
- improve learners’ academic English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing
- strengthen grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and fluency required for academic and professional contexts
- build learners’ confidence through extensive practice using authentic PTE-style tasks
- equip students with the skills and knowledge required to achieve their desired PTE Academic score
Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- understand the format and requirements of all PTE Academic task types
- apply effective strategies for each section of the PTE Academic test
- communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English using appropriate pronunciation, fluency and vocabulary
- comprehend general and detailed information in spoken and written academic texts
- summarise spoken and written information accurately
- write well-organised summaries and essays using appropriate grammar and vocabulary
- identify key information and infer meaning from a range of academic texts
- use effective strategies to deal with unfamiliar vocabulary
- improve their overall English language proficiency to support success in the PTE Academic examination
Entry Requirements
- IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent), successful completion of an Intermediate-level English course, or successful completion of the Mercury Colleges placement test.
Delivery Methods
- This course is delivered face-to-face in the classroom for 20 hours per week.
Assessment
- Assessment is conducted on a weekly basis and includes a range of PTE Academic practice tasks and full mock tests. Students receive regular written and verbal feedback to monitor their progress and identify areas for improvement.
Completion
- Upon successful completion of the PTE Academic Preparation course, students will receive a certificate indicating the duration of their study in the program.
